Getting around SEMrush is easy once you learn where everything is. This article will walk you through the basics of navigating the SEMrush interface and finding the report or tool you want.
Everything in SEMrush begins at the dashboard. This is the first screen you’ll see when you log in for the first time.
From here you can….
Make queries in the search bar at the top of SEMrush
Jump into reports from the navigation menu
Change your menu to show only the tools in your marketing specialty
Open the Projects Dashboard
Add domains to your dashboard here with the green Add domain button
Adding a domain to your dashboard will show you the domain’s trend of overview metrics like keywords and traffic estimations.
The dashboard also automatically populates with widgets about your Projects once you’ve set some up. This lets you jump right into your Site Audit or Position Tracking results, for example. Learn more about the dashboard widgets by checking out this article here.
Change Your Report From the Search Bar
As you enter a query into the search bar, you can change the report that you want to generate. For example, you could enter a domain name like pondlehocky.com and choose to either generate a Domain Overview (since it is a domain name) or a Phrase Overview (since it can also technically be a search phrase, too).
Once you have a query in the search bar, you can use the drop-down menu to the left of the search bar to flip between reports. As you change reports, the query left in the search bar will remain and be the focus of the new report.
This is one of the easiest ways to discover what SEMrush has to offer - just enter a keyword or phrase and keep changing the report to see the different insights you can get out of the software.
