It’s been a while since we analyzed a website in real time. During our last SEMrush Chat we hosted a special site analysis session dedicated to our new research, which uncovered the most common on-site SEO issues.
This time, we analyzed and evaluated kreativforditas.com with the help of our chat participants. The company provides a range of services, including content creation, copywriting, and copy critique services. During our real-time analysis, our guests pinpointed the website’s strengths and weaknesses and discussed how its owners can improve their site to make it more attractive to visitors.
First of all, we asked our guests what they would definitely change on this site. Let’s see their answers.
Our chat participants browsed the website and made some remarks on its quality. It seems that kreativforditas.com is in need of some improvements.
Everyone agreed that the slider, or carousel, also known as rotating offers, should definitely go. Rotating offers like these have proven to be an ineffective way of presenting homepage content. Peep Laja explained why you shouldn’t use automatic image sliders or carousels on your website and quoted some experts who have said the same thing in his article posted on ConversionXL. One strike against sliders and carousels is that they look like banners, which people usually skip over.
A1: No idea what this website is about...Carousel must go now :-) #semrushchat
— Omi Sido (@OmiSido) July 20, 2016
Dawn Anderson agreed that studies show that carousels are rarely used today. She also pointed out that if you right-click on the one on this website, a JavaScript pop-up box appears.
A1) Ooh, right click on it forces a javascript popup which prevents from view source. Hmmm..Have to consider impact of that #semrushchat
— Dawn Anderson (@dawnieando) July 20, 2016
Our other experts suggested that the company must remove this pop-up notification. There are several reasons why you should stop using them on your website. Excessive pop-ups can be really annoying; they disrupt your visitor’s reading experience.
Besides the carousel and the pop-up, some chat participants also recommended that the company remove its social share buttons, which look strange, because they appear in three different places. “Why are there social buttons in three places? Keep them in the footer and get rid of them everywhere else,” Ecreativeworks suggested.
As you can see, website owners like to use all-caps and bold type. Using all-caps in a social context means that you’re yelling. But when you use it on your website, it just makes it difficult for users to read your content. As for bold type, it’s usually used to emphasize certain words and phrases or make them stand out from surrounding text. But it’s only effective when you use it for a few words, not for whole sentences.
A1. Get rid of ALL CAPS & BOLD phrases. Good copy speaks for itself. No need to shout. #semrushchat
— Ecreativeworks (@ECWseo) July 20, 2016
Instead of using bold type and all caps, the website’s owners should make the menu item fonts bigger and more noticeable.
A1: @semrush I would make the menu item fonts bigger and more noticeable. I can barely read them compared to other site content #semrushchat
— Annaliese Henwood (@MktgInnovator) July 20, 2016
Some of our guests also recommended selecting more appropriate colors in order to make the site easier on the eyes.
A1 The colors don't fit. Make it easy on the eyes please #semrushchat
— Arnout Hellemans (@hellemans) July 20, 2016
Businesses that truly understand their audience are more likely to achieve their goals. Chris Desadoy pointed out that this company hasn’t identified its audience. Without understanding and identifying your potential customers, it’s difficult to communicate with them effectively. Learn as much as possible about your target audience, analyze your customers and adapt your message to your audience based on the information you learn about them.
A1. You have not identified nor are talking to your audience, you are broadcasting a service, almost in a pandering way #semrushchat
— Chris Desadoy (@EliteYouTubePro) July 20, 2016
Let’s see what we have so far!
It seems the website’s owners have a lot of work to do. Some of these issues are more serious than others. Not all of them can potentially harm your SEO efforts.
Let’s see what issues they should treat as a high priority.
We analyzed kreativforditas.com using our Site Audit tool and found out that this site has three very pressing issues:
-
103 internal links contain nofollow attributes
-
75 pages have a low text-to-HTML ratio
-
63 pages don’t have meta descriptions
All of these issues can negatively affect the company’s rankings. But which of them should be fixed as soon as possible? We received various answers.
Some experts believe the website’s owners should address the internal links issue first. Actually, a nofollow attribute can be a powerful SEO tool, but it can sometimes be misunderstood and misused. Adding a nofollow to all of your internal links can make it harder for search engines to understand which of your site’s pages are the most important. Think Tank pointed out that removing the nofollow tag can strengthen kreativforditas.com’s SEO efforts.
A2) The internal links. If they are legitimate/helpful, removing the #nofollow tag can significantly help their SEO efforts! #semrushchat
— ThinkTank (@Think_Tank_Mktg) July 20, 2016
Fixing internal link issues shouldn’t be an overwhelming task. “Nofollow internal links should be fairly quick to fix, since the site is on WordPress,” says Joe Martinez @MilwaukeePPC.
Tim Capper agreed with this point: “Remove the nofollows on internal links…If you paid for this advice, get a refund.” He also added that the low text-to-HTML ratio serves as a good indication that they need to work on some of their webpages. Finally, he recommended providing a good meta title and meta description.
A2 c) Lastly when you have improved your pages, then provide a decent Meta Title and Description for users in search #semrushchat
— Tim Capper (@GuideTwit) July 20, 2016
Metadata provides search engines with important information about your website. Keywords and phrases used in metadata explain to bots what is on you webpage. This information allows search engines to determine the relevancy of your pages for specific search terms. That’s why improving your meta descriptions will help you drive the right audience to your site.
A2: 2&3 should take priority. Metadata is essential for driving the right traffic while shallow content will mean they bounce. #SEMrushchat
— Traffic Jam Media (@trafficjammedia) July 20, 2016
Some of our chat participants also think that meta descriptions should be their top priority. Green Rush Digital believes that meta descriptions have the most serious impact on your user experience and click-through rates.
A2 Meta desc. probably have the biggest impact (mainly UX/CTR, not SEO) out of the 3. Text/html could be category pages, etc. #semrushchat
— Green Rush Digital (@_GreenRush_) July 20, 2016
Jason J. Zotara @JasonZotara pointed out that, in most cases, he would start with content strategy, but of these three issues, he would also address the meta descriptions first, because they can affect your CTR.
Marianne Sweeny pointed out that, in today’s world of artificial intelligence, you should start with webpages that contain thin content and then move on to meta descriptions. Both of these elements play an important role in your website’s user experience.
a2: In today's AI world, I would start with thin content pages and move to meta descriptions. Both serious UX issues @semrush #semrushchat
— Marianne Sweeny (@msweeny) July 20, 2016
Check out what we have so far in the following recap!
Many of our experts agreed that kreativforditas.com, first of all, needs to fix its meta descriptions, because they can significantly affect your CTR.
We also checked the website’s load speed using GTmetrix and found out that it’s 3.5 seconds.
Today, a website’s load speed means a lot. According to Sean Work’s surveys, 47 percent of consumers expect a webpage to load in two seconds or less.
Our chat participants shared some tips for speeding up your website.
-
Install a caching plugin
There are various ways that website owners can optimize their WordPress website. Installing a caching plugin effectively improves your page-loading times. This plugin creates a static version of your content and displays it for your visitors, which can reduce your page’s load speed.
-
Transfer the website to another host
The problem might be with their web host. Choosing a suitable host for your website is crucial for your business. You can find some useful tips for choosing a web host on thesitewizard.com.
A3: Site's load speed can be improved by:
- installing a caching plugin
- using a different hosting party
- resizing images#semrushchat— WooRank (@woorank) July 20, 2016
-
Optimize the images
Optimizing your images includes reducing their size and quality. The larger an image’s file size, the longer it will take your website to load it, so it’s important to keep your images as small as possible. As for quality, the thing is that images on the Web don’t have to be that high-quality, unlike images that are needed for printing photos. You can use the WordPress plugin ShortPixel Image Optimizer to optimize your images and PDFs.
A3 Optimize Images; and compress those 5 MB pictures https://t.co/P3wYyDT7PV#SEMRushChat
— Bill Slawski (@bill_slawski) July 20, 2016
-
Minimize your HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files
Minimizing these files means that you should remove all blank spaces and unnecessary comments contained in the files to reduce their size, because even a single black space adds to the size of a file. Autoptimize is a WordPress plugin that speeds up your website and helps you save bandwidth by minimizing, compressing, and combining your HTML, CSS, and JS files.
-
Move to HTTP/2
HTTP/2 is the latest update to the HTTP protocol. It was developed by the IETF’s HTTP Working Group. According to Patrick Stox, many techniques that were used to speed up websites with HTTP/1.1 are no longer necessary with HTTP/2. This means that users can enjoy increased speeds on HTTP/2 connections.
A3: Fixing CSS, minimize CSS to one and probably inline it. Minimizing HTML, minimizing JS usage. Moving to HTTP/2 #semrushchat
— Peter Nikolow (@PeterNikolow) July 20, 2016

Use Google AMP pages
Today it might be as very difficult for online businesses to thrive if their website won’t load quickly across all platforms. In February, Google launched its Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) project, causing many debates among digital marketers.
In a nutshell, AMP is a simplified version of the mobile Web that runs on a reimagined version of HTML. This Google project is intended to be an open standard that any publisher can use to help their pages load quickly on mobile devices. Paul Shapiro explains how you can mark up your mobile pages to easily improve your website’s load speed, leading to a better mobile user experience.
A3 How about AMP, might speed up things for mobile visitors. Ditch the slider. Maybe move to a faster host (dedicated)? #semrushchat
— Arnout Hellemans (@hellemans) July 20, 2016
Rachel Howe checked both the desktop and mobile versions of this website using Google Developers.
A3: Similar issues for mobile. Use this link to fix the issues > https://t.co/FgC9LbIB7J #semrushchat pic.twitter.com/yRA2K4EKJq
— Rachel Howe (@R8chel_Marie) July 20, 2016
The mobile version of this site has similar load-speed issues. An increasing number of people access the Internet via their mobile devices. If you don’t want to lose a lot of potential customers, you have to optimize your website for mobile.
Let’s sum up!
Got any other tips on how website owners can speed up their website? Let us know in the comments!
We’ve figured out how Kreatív Fordítás can improve its load speed. Now, let’s see what techniques it should use to rank higher for its targeted search terms. As you can see, the company provides content-creation services, so it’s fair to assume that it ranks for copywriting-related keywords.
Tim Capper noticed that this website contains really great content. But they can do their content marketing even better. Having a cohesive categorization structure for your content can boost your SEO and improve an overall experience for your readers.
A4) The site has great content, but devaluing it by not targeting it by publishing in multiple categories and on other sites #semrushchat
— Tim Capper (@GuideTwit) July 20, 2016
If you know how to use long tail keywords, they can be of great value to your business. Long tail terms are specific keyword phrases that your potential customers are likely to use when they are close to making a purchase. David Rosam recommends doing keyword research for these long tail keyword phrases and then discovering semantic variations.
A4) KW Research for long-tail. Nail semantic variations. Really understand customer needs. Write with authority. Long Copy! #semrushchat
— David Rosam (@writingforseo) July 20, 2016
Website owners should find out what keywords would be the most valuable for their content marketing campaign based on several factors, as ZenContent @ZenContent suggested: “Determine which keywords would help based on search volume, domain position, and keyword difficulty, then incorporate!”
Andy Drinkwater made a great point, suggesting to identify your LSI keywords. Latent semantic indexing (LSI) is a part of Google’s algorithm that aims to identify semantically related terms. LSI allows search engines to better decipher webpages in order to provide their users with more relevant and high-quality search results. If you want to rank for a certain keyword phrase, you should incorporate synonyms of your main target term into your content plan.
A4: Research LSI / Synonyms and similar words that help explain a theme in more detail #semrushchat
— Andy Drinkwater (@iqseo) July 20, 2016
Andy also recommended learning what your competitors are doing: “Compare pages that are ranking well and investigate why this is happening.”
Website owners can also convert testimonials into text content. Testimonials from your happy clients speak directly to your customers. In fact, this is one of the easiest forms of marketing. The best way to get good testimonials is to ask your customers specific questions and pull out some important details that can help your website visitor’s connect with your brand.
A4: Minor, but convert testimonials into text-based content. That’s a lot of uncrawlable, keyword-rich information #semrushchat @semrush
— Laurel Marcus (@ljmarcus) July 20, 2016
The website we analyzed has a blog and it regularly posts articles. Rachel Howe gave a great piece of advice: to turn some of these posts into infographics. The company could even take this a step further by doing an industry survey and posting it on their website.
A4: Turn some of the blog posts into an infographic, do an industry survey and market that - ppl LOVE new & informative data! #semrushchat
— Rachel Howe (@R8chel_Marie) July 20, 2016
We were happy to know that our guests recommend SEMrush for keyword research: “Use SEMrush for keyword research! Free advice! Also, research competitors using that tool too!” advised Peter Nikolow @PeterNikolow.
You can find a few other answers in the following recap.
So what techniques would you suggest this website employ to rank higher in search for its target keywords? We would love to hear your thoughts on this topic!
So far, we’ve talked a lot about what should be fixed and improved on this website. But it definitely has some strengths. At the end of our chat, we decided to discuss things that we like about kreativforditas.com.
First of all, the site has really good content.
A5: The branding is unusual and interesting but it needs to be clarified. Build on it! Some great content on the blog too. #SEMrushchat
— Traffic Jam Media (@trafficjammedia) July 20, 2016
The company posts well-written articles on a regular basis: “It's also great that the blog is regularly updated. Posting 'fresh' content is an important on-page SEO factor,” added Traffic Jam Media.
Bill Slawski also noticed the great tagline: “Intelligent Copy for Smart People.” It captures the visitor’s attention and communicates the brand’s personality. Defining your brand is a key step in developing your overall marketing plan. Every brand has a personality. It’s important for marketers to figure out what their brand’s personality is and how they can effectively and consistently communicate it to their target audience.
A6 I like the tagline for the site/business. It captures a lot in a memorable way: "Intelligent Copy for Smart People." #SEMRushChat
— Bill Slawski (@bill_slawski) July 20, 2016
As we said earlier, testimonials can be a powerful marketing tool. The testimonials on kreativforditas.com’s homepage are one of its best features.
You can get inspiration from these examples of great testimonial pages collected by Lindsay Kolowich.
A5: I like that you are developing content other than blogs. Appreciate you putting CTAs and Testimonials on homepage. #semrushchat @semrush
— Jason J. Zotara (@JasonZotara) July 20, 2016
In addition to its articles, Kreatív Fordítás has a podcast page. Podcasting is a huge marketing opportunity and a great venue for publicity. Podcasts can increase your company’s credibility and bring personality to your brand.
A5: Using podcasts to promote their brand and credibility. Opportunity to reach new audiences and show personality #semrushchat @semrush
— Laurel Marcus (@ljmarcus) July 20, 2016
Finally, some of our chat participants liked the site’s easy-to-use and nice-looking navigation bar.
A5: The top navigation bar looks nice and easy to use. Could improve it even more and get more CTRs! #semrushchat https://t.co/sSLj2gAI4P
